Jake Collison has played an influential role in the karting community as both a driver and builder. Collison started out in 1983, purchasing his first go-kart at 11-years-old and going on to achieve success at various levels. He won 15 Waterloo Regional Kart Club (WRKC) division championships between 1989 and 2023, with hundreds of race wins. He’s a seven-time Senior High Points Winner at the club.
Collison’s regional success includes more than 20 feature wins in both the Oktoberfest Grand Prix and Brian Stewart Regional Karting. He’s a two-time Simcoe Kart Club champion and multi-time Brian Stewart Regional Karting division champ. He has multiple wins in the Ontario Oval Track Karting Series, which ran kart races alongside regular stock car events at tracks such as Flamboro, Delaware and Varney. He’s also won street races in Barrie, Windsor, Sudbury and Leamington.
Collison is an Ontario Pro Cup race winner and 15-time Ontario Grand National ‘Bear’ champion. Internationally, he finished 13th of 70 teams in the Granja Viana 500 in Brazil, while finishing 11th of 60 drivers in the 2019 USAC Battle at the Brickyard in Indianapolis. He’s a US Open Indoor Karting Championship winner and has competed at more than 20 tracks regionally and internationally.
Away from the driver’s seat, he formed Collison Racing in 1989, which offers a range of karting products and services. He’s guided customers to over 200 championships, 1400 race wins and 60 Canadian ‘Bear’ National wins as an engine builder/kart tuner. He’s served on the WRKC board for over 30 years, taking on various roles, including over 15 years as president. He also helped spearhead the club’s move to Flamboro Speedway after they lost their home track in 2006. Over the years, he’s spent countless volunteer hours around the track, helping drivers start their karting careers and helping grow the sport at a regional level.
