The CMHF honours an International Inductee each year, recognizing legendary racers, teams and manufacturers from outside of Canada, that have had a significant impact in motorsports.
With their joint role at the helm of Green Savoree Racing Promotions, Kim Green and Kevin Savoree are the International Inductee for the Class of 2025. Green and Savoree started working together in 1993, holding team principal roles in CART and IndyCar before becoming promoters of multiple events.
The duo first joined forces at Team Green Racing, owned by Kim’s brother Barry, which made its CART debut in 1994 before winning the 1995 Indianapolis 500 and that year’s CART championship with Canadian driver Jacques Villeneuve. Their success extended to Canada itself later that decade, winning the 1999 Indy Toronto with driver Dario Franchitti.
Team Green’s satellite operation, Team Motorola, won the 2001 Indy Toronto with driver Michael Andretti, the seventh and final event victory for the winningest driver on the Streets of TO. Andretti bought into the ownership of what became Andretti Green Racing and the organization moved to IndyCar in 2003, ultimately winning two Indianapolis 500s and three series championships with drivers Tony Kanaan, Dan Wheldon and Franchitti.
Green, Savoree and Andretti began their involvement on the promotions side of the sport in the 2000s, helping launch the first street course event for IndyCar at St. Petersburg, Florida in 2005. The group was instrumental in saving the Indy Toronto after its final CART event in 2007; following an off-year, which saw Green and Savoree purchase the event’s assets, Toronto joined the IndyCar schedule in 2009.
The promotions and race team separated in 2009, with Andretti continuing as a team owner and Green and Savoree launching Green Savoree Racing Promotions. In the decade and a half since, the pair has been at the helm for every IndyCar race in Toronto and will continue in their role for the newly-located Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham in the city’s suburbs. Their efforts have been essential to continuing the rich tradition of Indy car racing in Canada’s largest metro area.
In addition to Toronto and St. Petersburg, Green and Savoree currently promote events at Portland International Raceway and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course; they also own the Mid-Ohio track, which they purchased in 2011. Their events have hosted races for many series, including IndyCar, INDY NXT, MotoAmerica, the NASCAR Truck Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
