Bertrand Houle

INDUCTED 2025 - MEDIA

Bertrand Houle has been a mainstay of motorsports coverage on RDS for over 35 years, bringing his insight and passion into broadcasts of top-tier open-wheel events that have helped define the French-language voice of racing in Canada. From Trois-Rivières, QC, Houle started his journalism career working for regional weekly newspapers before taking on the role of editor-in-chief at Moteur Québec magazine.

Houle then shifted to a public relations role, working for the F1 Canadian Grand Prix and various racing series. He also spent several years working trackside as a marshal at events in Canada and the United States. Establishing himself as a leading figure for auto racing in Quebec, Houle joined RDS in 1989. When the network acquired the broadcast rights for Formula 1 in 1993, Houle stepped in as an analyst, alongside play-by-play voice Pierre Houde. The duo’s first race was on March 14, 1993, where Alain Prost won the opening event in what would become a championship season.

Houle was behind the mic for decades of Formula 1 coverage, a span that included Canadian Jacques Villeneuve winning the 1997 championship, Michael Schumacher winning his seven titles, Lewis Hamilton going on a dominant run of six championships and 73 wins in seven seasons, and Max Verstappen’s recent run of four straight titles. His work did not go unnoticed, winning an Immortal Award, alongside Houde and Christian Tortora, from the Prix Gémeaux/Gemini Awards, a recognition they received for having won three awards in the Animation category between 1995 and 2001.

Houle and Houde have become one of the more recognizable broadcast announce teams on French-language TV in Canada, calling nearly 1,500 motorsport events over the span of roughly 35 years, across Formula 1, IndyCar, Formula E and Formula Atlantic. With this prominent role, the two have become ambassadors for French-language motor racing coverage.
