Marty Gaunt

INDUCTED 2025 - BUILDER / SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTOR

Marty Gaunt achieved success as an engine builder in NASCAR’s top three series, while reaching stock car racing’s highest level as a team owner. Gaunt started out as a grassroots racer in Ontario and consulted with top-tier NASCAR organizations before becoming an engine builder and co-owner of Triad Racing Technologies, which leased engines to teams in the NASCAR Cup, NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts (formerly Xfinity and Nationwide) and NASCAR Truck series.

Gaunt supported Toyota in winning 10 NASCAR Truck Series manufacturer championships between 2006 and 2017, along with two manufacturer championships in the O’Reilly series, with a collective 112 wins and 91 poles. His engines were a part of five NASCAR Truck Series driver championships, which included Matt Crafton becoming the first back-to-back series champion in 2013-2014, while becoming the first to complete every lap of the season, in 2013. He also supported the efforts of 2013 ARCA champion Frank Kimmel.

Gaunt later became a NASCAR Cup Series team owner, fielding the No. 96 Toyota under the Gaunt Brothers Racing banner from 2017 to 2021. His first race as owner was the 2017 Daytona 500, where he and driver D.J. Kennington became the first Canadian duo in 29 years to qualify for the Great American Race. Kennington recorded the team’s best finish, a 13th-place at the 2018 Daytona summer race.

Gaunt fielded a car part-time for multiple drivers in the Cup Series, including Parker Kligerman, Harrison Burton and Ty Dillon. His lone full-time season was in 2020 with Daniel Suarez. He’s also fielded a car at the regional level with Jason Bowles, which included a pole position for the 2011 NASCAR Canada Series race in Toronto and a win in the 2011 Toyota All-Star Showdown in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. Along the way, Gaunt has been known for his enthusiasm for fellow Canadian fans and racers, often welcoming visitors into the shop.
